Wikipedia is the largest and most widely consulted encyclopedia in the world, but it has a well-documented diversity problem. In some measures, as many as 91% of Wikipedia editors identify as white. The lack of diversity leads to bias and underrepresentation. This edit-a-thon’s theme is Black Lives Matter.

Though you would be free to focus on any kind of content you would like, this edit-a-thon will be focusing on information gaps and errors related to Black history, art, music, culture, knowledge, and notable people. This is an opportunity for you to be an “information ally” for people who are underrepresented and marginalized.

If you have not yet chosen a subject for your new article, consider one from our list of articles to be created.

Whether you make an edit or create an article, be sure to tag our event using the following hashtag: #BLMatUKY
